Student loan consolidation information

Wednesday, Oct 10, 2007

Question: My wife would like to consolidate her remaining two student loans. However, one of the loans was taken out by her father in his name and she has been paying for it since graduating. Is there a solution to this.

Answer: Unfortunately, according to my student loan consolidation resource at a major bank, the transaction you are describing is not possible. When you consolidate student loans you cannot mix two different original obligor/debtors into a single loan. Your wife should be able to consolidate her own loan for a much better rate and extended
term, and do the same for the other name in Dad's name for the a similar outcome. Check out the student loan page at Bills.com: http://www.bills.com/studentloans/
