BB&T Mortgage is a smaller lender able to offer a more personal touch to the lending experience. In spite of this, they don't have the same draw as larger lenders due to the limited types of loans they have to offer. BB&T Mortgage currently offers fixed rate and adjustable rate mortgages as well as Veteran's Administration mortgage loans.

Millionaire Can't Renew 18yr Bus Loan
Muscle Shoals, AL | November 20, 2013
I have been banking with BB&T since 1995 when they were Colonial Bank. Several years ago, Colonial Bank was bought out by BB&T and things have gone downhill from there. We have had a business loan with them since 1995, and the loan came up for renewal. Granted I have over 1/2 million in an investment account, and over 1/2 million in properties that I own, as well as an excellent credit score. Colonial had always renewed this loan for us in the past, but this time denied us. I will be moving my busines
Very good experience
Sarasota, FL | September 16, 2013
Lisa Stottlemeyer at downtown Sarasota branch got a refi on an investment property done for me. Closing was on time and very little paperwork. They charge the usual "junk" fees but all in all it was still a good deal. The mortgage I had was due to adjust and getting this fixed rate is saving me hundreds of $$ each month. Thank you Lisa and BB&T
If I could give less than ZERO stars, I would!
Clyattville, GA | June 17, 2013
Absolutely horrible. Wife forgot her purse in a restaurant, checks were stolen from it before we recovered it the next day from the business. We filed police reports, and the checks were forged, causing a loss of $1000.00. Now they say that since we were negligent in protecting her checks, that they will not put the 1000.00 back into her account, in spite of the visual evidence that the checks were forged by third party CRIMINALS. BB&T, YOU STINK. Hope you lose potential customers that read this.
Where did my money go?
Mesquite, TX | April 09, 2012
We tried to move money from checking to pay for a credit card. All BB&T accounts. its now 10 days and I'm on hold again. I have been on hold a total of 3hrs. Some song and dance about taking 7 business days to make this transaction happen. Bull
Monroe, NC | April 03, 2012
After sending my docs 3 times to BBT for my loan in process along with paid appraisal and repairs I am a month into the closing set for early April.the processor is still asking for the same paperwork I sent her a month ago, Im not sure if it will go through, but their communication is null and void, rude, unorganized, and I will never do business with them again........wont return calls......on and on........BAD BANK to work with. Dont waste your time and nerves..........
Monroe, NC | April 09, 2012
My daughter is going through the same thing. Supposed to close tomorrow, now they are asking for the same docs we have given them 3 times. Complain to the OCC.
Don't Go Paperless
Virginia, VA | February 21, 2012
If you go paperless and think you can always access your statements online - YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG! What they don't tell you is that if you close your account or a potion of the accounts you might have with them - you will not ever be able to access your statement or cancelled checks. I have had other accounts and credit cards where accessing statements after then account is closed is no problem - BBT is just trying to make money by saying "its $7 each item because now we have to research and mail it"
Richmond Hill, GA | February 20, 2012
BB&T is a predator. Tried in vain to renegotiate a small lot loan, (less than 22K), no way with every option I proposed. I was turned over to their CARP program, Credit Assistance Repair Program, what a joke. Be prepared for foreclosure if this happens to you. They have been difficult and last week wiped out my business account without notification which lead to two insufficient funds charges and two bad checks.I will put all my assets in a coffee can and throw it in the ocean. Mad in Midway :(
Spokane Valley, WA | February 15, 2012
My auto loan was sold to them. Worst thing that ever happened. Took three days to find a live person to ask a simple question WITH the help of one nice receptionist for BBT in Dallas..who looked for two days to find one person to anwser a very simple question. I told them not to call me, send my paperwork, and got six ..SIX automated calls after I asked them not to call with that system. Crappy bank, and the worst service I have seen in my life. Filed a complaint about them.
USE THIS BANK ONLY IF YOU WANT YOUR MONEY STOLEN OR HID SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE ACCESS
Dayton, TN | February 09, 2012
Been trying for 3 months to get access to my electronic deposit, yes it was a huge amount of money but that is no excuse for it taking so long. No one can tell us where the money is and we have been given every excuse in the book. First they said it was more than the FDIC covers and they would have to have an underwriter,ok so underwrite it and give us the money. That was in November 2011, Now there is still no money and no one will tell us where it is.
The worst in service / slow drive though. Lie to customer
Dunedin, FL | February 09, 2012
Dunedin, Florida BB&T Mgn is the worst to manage problems. Is a yes man in fron of you but when you leave he does not do anything. They just lost a 3 million dollar account.
Beware!! Fraudulent fees and no one to hold accountable.
Fayetteville, NC | February 07, 2012
I've tried to get BB&T to drop an unwarranted fee of over $1000.00 from my account for 5 years! Every time I bring my insurance verification to the branch I'm told it will be taken care of... and it never was. Now they say that it's too far in the past to drop. They take every opportunity they can to leach all the money possible through hidden or false fees. - Scott Jordan
Watch what you sign
Fort Myers, FL | January 12, 2012
I am unemployed due to accident at work.My husband had an account with bb and t and when I recieved a settlement check I became joint in his account to have access to an account little did I know I was supposedly signing away my rights to use that money as I saw fit. mainly to pay dr bills so I could get my medicines and buy an electric wheelchair so I could maybe find some type of work.without notice bb and t withdrew 1400 dollars on a property loan my husband had prior to marriage they had foreclosed on.
Welaka, FL | March 10, 2012
Just because its a joint account doesn't mean they can take YOUR money. You need to find an attorney and go after them. Don't delay. In the meantime, YOU write a letter to BB&T and demand the money returned. Send it certified mail. And tell them you're retaining a lawyer. If you can't afford one, go to legal aid.
Terrible service¯ - Possible the worst bak in the world.
Albany, NY | December 05, 2011
My account was originally with Colonial Bank. Since BB&T took over the bank, the service has plummeted to rock bottom. (1) I ordered a new bank card, It took 2 months to arrive. (2) I was put on hold for 33 minutes before I hung up the line. (3) The bank began charging my account $4 per month for Easyimage statement fee without telling me. (4) Charges are high. (6) Staff are slow and unhelpful. If I could give this bank minus figures for my review I would. Goodbye BB&T, I'm going to a better bank.
Difficult to say the least to deal with BBT
Charlotte, NC | October 12, 2011
They have no desire to help once you have obtained a mortgage with them. Simply say NO to any kind of help with an upside down mortgage.
Bank from hell
Myrtle Beach, SC | August 05, 2011
My husband and I are first time home buyers. We applied at BBT at Wright Blvd Myrtle Beach. We were prequalified for $100,000. We have a retirement income of $2,900/month. We didn't like the $90.000 home we found, we liked one for $110.000. We didn't think we were going to be accepted. Well they did, an even went as high as $114,000. We couldn't believe it. We didn't have the full closing cost and the mortgage lender continue to force us to take the house and loan. It's is banks like this that you never want to go to. Deceivers.
Palm Coast, FL | June 05, 2011
Very deceitful would not help us at all. Foreclosed on a house just to show us they were in control. Very nasty when it comes to customer service,
Denver, NC | March 03, 2011
BB&T is the most difficult bank that I have dealt with in short sales...impossible.
Jacksonville, FL | November 22, 2011
BB&T is a predatory lender and no friend of the military. I strongly advise all veterans and military members to tell everyone in their professional and social network NOT TO BANK WITH BB&T. I have a mortgage with them, requested a loan modification and was denied, I attempted a short and they refused to provide a reasonable compromise even when I was willing to sign a promissory note of $50K. This is an unethical organization in my humble opinion and they their institution lacks any compassion for the sacrifices of veterans and military service member. My request for relief was a result of receiving Permanent Change of Station Orders as I am still on active duty. Please tell everyone you can to avoid banking with BB&T.
