There are some states that allow liens to be placed on homes while others prohibit such liens. Liens are prohibited in states that have homestead exemptions. I cannot say for certain whether that can happen because you have not provided me with enough information, such as the state you live in. To find if your state allows for liens on a property please see State Consumer Protection Laws and Exemptions.

If you would like to learn more about liens, please see what is a lien?.

I hope this information helps you Find. Learn & Save.

I have a debt collector that placed a lien on my home and I cannot afford to pay them in full, can a debt consolidation program not only help financially but, could they help with removing a lien as well? I own my home in the state of CT.

Maybe, although your situation is much more complicated than what most debt resolution companies deal with daily. High-quality debt resolution companies work hard to avoid liens and garnishments for their clients, and may not have the experience to clean up a lien after the fact. Go to the Bills.com debt consolidation form and get a no-cost, no-gimmick consultation from one of Bills.com's pre-screened partners to learn more.

Your alternative is to consult with an attorney in your state who has debt negotiation or bankruptcy experience.
