Soon, many people will be hitting area malls and retail outlets in order to being their holiday shopping season.
And though consumers are trying to find that perfect gift, they may also consider avoiding using credit card debt in order to purchase it. A recent story from the
Dallas Morning News noted there are a number of things people can do in order to find some debt relief during theholiday season.
One thing people can do is develop a spending plan, which will help them avoid incurring any more credit card debt. The paper noted that doing so may not be as constraining as some might think.
"In fact, it can be quite liberating because it will keep you from making impulse purchases," the report stated.
Many credit card companies are raising rates while they still can. As a result, consumers may consider putting their credit cards away and using cash or a debit card. If they do plan on using a credit card, the paper advised consumers not buy anything that can't be
paid for in full within three months.
A recent survey from the National Retail Federation shows that more consumers plan on using cash or a debit card when making holiday purchases this year. In fact, the number of people who said they would use credit card debt fell 10.1 percent when compared to last year.
