There are a number of things people can do when looking to give themselves some debt relief.

Recently in her blog journalist Sharon Harvey Rosenberg noted that her family has found a number of ways to cut down costs on their budget. For example, consumers may consider switching to energy-efficient light bulbs or turning off the water heater when they are on vacation or not at home.

In her blogpost, Harvey Rosenberg cited some other suggestions from Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Rather than go to a barber or salon, people may consider taking care of personal upkeep themselves.

"It's possible to save several hundreds of dollars annually with do-it-yourself haircuts, manicures and pedicures," Harvey Rosenberg wrote.

Furthermore, rather than spending money on movie rentals, people may consider going to their local library. Many libraries have movies to borrow, which consumers can take out for free.

Consumers should also keep track of their bills, especially those that are automatically
deducted from their bank accounts. Doing so can ensure that consumers aren't being overcharged for their debts.

Along with regular family expenses, there are ways for people to save when it comes to the holiday season. Along with budgeting, consumers may consider starting their shopping early in order to save money on gifts.
