Paying off Outstanding Debt

Paying off Outstanding Debt

Question: How long will delinquent credit cards remain on my credit? I heard that some things will be removed after a certain period of time. Also, when I pay off past due accounts will this increase my credit score. Also how long does child support (arrearage) remain on your credit report even though you have been paying? Tell me about paying off outstanding debt.

Answer:
The quick answer is that most items remain on your credit report for up to seven years.

There are three major credit bureaus that offer credit reports, if there is something that you want added or removed, you should contact them directly:

Equifax
1-800-685-1111

Experian
1-888-397-3742
http://www.experian.com
Trans Union
1-800-916-8800
http://www.transunion.com

To get a hold of your credit report, contact one of these three bureaus. Each bureau interprets your credit information differently, so you might want to get a report from all three.
