What does debt consolidation cost?

What does debt consolidation cost?

The cost varies depending on the services you need.  When you look at cost, do NOT simply look at fees but at the true lifetime cost of totally getting debt free (debt payoff and fees of the provider).

Most debt management plans include fees in the monthly payments or a one-time setup fee. The initial consultation should be free or very low cost -- usually less than $50. Look for services that offer free educational materials, such as budgeting forms. If the fees seem unreasonable, investigate other services until you find one that works for you.

If you choose a refinance loan, you will pay a monthly interest rate on your loan and frequently will have closing costs associated with broker fees (sometimes called yield-spread premium and broker points) and process fees.

Debt settlement fees pay for the services of your provider and typically range between 20-35% of your debt, over a period of three to four years.
