KeyBank Personal Loan Review September 2026
At Bills.com, we strive to help you make financial decisions with confidence. While many of the products reviewed are from our Service Providers, including those with which we are affiliated and those that compensate us, our evaluations are never influenced by them.

KeyBank personal loan top features
Loan amounts: $2,000 to $50,000.
Credit needed: KeyBank does not publish a minimum required credit score. For its lowest advertised rate, you need a FICO Score of 780 or higher (that score falls in FICO’s Very Good range).
Rates and discounts: APR runs up to 23.49%, and the lowest advertised rate is 8.49% as of August 2026 (KeyBank sets rates by ZIP code, so your numbers may differ). Two discounts are already baked into that range: 0.25% for Auto-Pay and 0.75% for owning a qualifying KeyBank checking account. Terms longer than 60 months add 0.25% to your rate.
Fees: No origination fee, no application fee, and no penalty for paying early. KeyBank does not publish its late or returned-payment fees. Origination fees are common on personal loans, so not having one is a plus.
Funding speed: Approval takes 1 to 3 business days. Money can arrive the same business day if you meet a few conditions, including having it sent to a KeyBank account and signing by 2 p.m. ET.
States: Fifteen: Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.
Prequalification: KeyBank does not offer prequalification. Applying means agreeing to a credit check, so you cannot see your rate without one.
Where KeyBank can improve
The biggest limit is location. KeyBank lends in 15 states, so a lot of the country cannot apply.
You can’t see your rate without a hard credit check. That makes KeyBank hard to shop against other lenders. The lowest advertised rate is also conditional, which is normal. To reach 8.49% you need a qualifying KeyBank account, Auto-Pay, and a FICO Score of 780 or higher.
Customer ratings are low on both sites we track. BBB shows 1.17 out of 5 from 125 reviews, and Trustpilot shows 1.4 out of 5 from 207 reviews, both as of September 2, 2026. Note that people are more likely to leave unsolicited negative reviews than positive ones, so by their nature, ratings sites don’t represent all customer experiences.
KeyBank does not publish its late or returned-payment fees, so you can’t see them until you have a contract.
Qualifying for a KeyBank personal loan
KeyBank lists just three minimum requirements: You must be 18 or older, have a valid Social Security number, and live in one of its 15 states.
KeyBank does not publish whether it accepts a cosigner or a joint applicant. Those rules vary by lender, so ask a branch before you count on a second applicant.
Credit score and income requirements
KeyBank doesn’t disclose what credit score you need for a personal loan there. The bank says a FICO Score of 780 or higher earns its lowest advertised rate.
Lenders set your rate and terms according to your credit reports, your income, your debts, and how much you borrow and for how long. KeyBank does not publish an income minimum or a debt-to-income (DTI) limit.
Your DTI is all your monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income. Housing costs (rent or mortgage payment, and for mortgages, property taxes and insurance) are considered part of monthly debt payments. Many lenders treat 43% as a benchmark, but it is not a universal cap.
How to apply for a KeyBank loan
You can apply online with KeyBank’s Apply Now form or at a branch. Any rate you are quoted is subject to credit approval.
How applying affects your credit
A soft inquiry (soft pull) does not affect your credit score. A hard inquiry, made when you formally apply for credit, can lower your score by a few points temporarily. Prequalification typically uses a soft inquiry; a formal application uses a hard inquiry.
KeyBank does not offer prequalification, so there is no way to see your real rate without a hard inquiry that could ding your credit score. Plan the order you apply to lenders with that in mind.
Documents you’ll need
KeyBank does not publish a full list of documents you need to apply for a personal loan. It says you may be asked for records such as tax returns and financial statements, and that you need a Social Security number.
Loan approval and funding from KeyBank
KeyBank says approval takes one to three business days (as of August 26, 2026). Because there is no origination fee and no application fee, nothing is taken out of the money you receive.
Funds go into a KeyBank account. Once the loan is open, you can see statements and make payments in online and mobile banking, by mail, or at a branch.
If payments get hard to cover, KeyBank has a Borrower Assistance program with a track for personal loans.
Funding timeline
Money can arrive as soon as the same business day. That depends on four things: you meet the credit requirements, no other lender has to be paid off, the money goes into a KeyBank account, and you sign by 2 p.m. ET on a business day. KeyBank may also verify your income, which can slow things down.
KeyBank: customer service and satisfaction
KeyBank’s main line is 1-800-539-2968, and TTY and TRS users dial 711. It also has online chat and a mobile app. There are 940 branches across its 15 states.
KeyBank’s licensing and track record
KeyBank holds Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry ID 399797. BBB rates it A+ and lists it as accredited since 1933.
We found no CFPB, FTC, or OCC action against KeyBank.
What customers say
BBB gives KeyBank a customer rating of 1.17 out of 5 from 125 reviews, with 245 complaints in the last three years. Trustpilot shows 1.4 out of 5 from 207 reviews.
Both pages cover KeyBank as a whole rather than just its personal loans. The reviews are mostly about checking accounts, card disputes, held deposits, and mortgage servicing.
When a KeyBank personal loan might be the best choice
A KeyBank personal loan is a great option for those who qualify.
This loan could fit if you already use a KeyBank checking account and you may get both its discounts (Auto-Pay and a qualifying KeyBank account) that make for the most-competitive rates.
If you live in one of its states and want to avoid fees, there are none here: no origination fee, no application fee, and no penalty for paying early.
If you want a lower monthly payment, terms run out to 84 months. The trade-off is that terms over 60 months add 0.25% and cost you more in interest overall.
If you bank with KeyBank and need money fast, funds could arrive the same business day.
It’s not for rate-shoppers who want to avoid a hard credit check. For a similar no-fee bank loan, see our TD Bank personal loan review.
