What Is Bank of America's Online Bill Paying?

Bank of America Bill Pay is a free banking service available to personal and business banking customers with checking, savings, or home equity line of credit accounts with Bank of America. Bill Pay allows you to schedule one-time, future, or recurring payments to billers from an eligible Bank of America bank account.

You'll need to enroll in online banking to use Bank of America Bill Pay. Once registered, you can schedule payments to your billers. There is no limit to the number of bills you can pay from your Bank of America accounts. Bank of America doesn't charge a fee to use Bill Pay.

So why use Bank of America Bill Pay? There are advantages to paying bills online:

Eliminate the need to write checks

  • Save money on postage since there's nothing to mail
  • Streamline bill payments through automation
  • Avoid missed or late payments (and their associated fees)

Online bill pay services can save time and money while simplifying your monthly budgeting process. Roughly two-thirds of the global population uses digital payments, including online bill payment services, to manage their money, and convenience is a driving factor.

Ways to Pay Bills With Bank of America

Once you enroll in online banking, you can start using Bank of America Bill Pay. You can pay bills online through the Bank of America website or the Bank of America mobile banking app.

The process for paying bills with Bank of America is relatively simple and involves just three steps:

  • Log in to online or mobile banking and select Bill Pay from the menu
  • Add the company or person you want to pay
  • Enter the amount and due date, then select Make Payments

You can receive eBills through Bank of America online banking. An eBill is an electronic statement from a biller showing the amount due and the due date. When you set up eBills, you can opt to pay the total amount due or make partial payments through the Bill Pay service.

Again, there's no fee to use Bank of America Bill Pay. Once you schedule a payment, the amount is deducted from your account on the day the payment is sent. Bank of America recommends scheduling payments at least five business days before the due date to ensure they arrive on time.

If you schedule a payment through Bill Pay to a biller that doesn't accept online payments, Bank of America will send it to them on your behalf. Money is deducted from your account when the biller deposits the check.

In addition to Bill Pay, you have other options for paying bills with Bank of America:

  • Writing and mailing a paper check
  • Paying through the biller's website using your Bank of America debit card or credit card
  • Withdrawing cash at the ATM to pay billers in-person

You can use one or all of these methods to pay bills, along with the Bill Pay service.

Bank of America App to Pay Bills

The Bank of America mobile banking app allows you to pay bills 24/7 from virtually anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection. The app is free to download. You can use it to do your Bank of America online banking.

Here's how paying bills with the Bank of America app works:

  • Open the app and log in
  • Select Bill Pay
  • Select the payee (i.e., the business or person you wish to pay)
  • Enter the amount and deliver by date
  • Review the details, then select Pay

You can change the frequency of payments in the app. So if you'd like to pay your mortgage automatically each month, you can do so. Or you can select one-time payments instead.

Once you select Pay, you'll also have an opportunity to save a copy of the payment details for your records. You can review payment history and activity through the app.

Bank of America Online Bill Paying

Paying bills through the Bank of America website isn't that different from using Bill Pay through the mobile app. Here's how it works:

  • Navigate to the Bank of America online banking website and log in
  • Hover over the Bill Pay tab and select Payment Center
  • Select the payee you wish to pay
  • Choose the payment amount and due date
  • Review payment details, then select Make Payment

You can choose AutoPay if you want monthly bills to be automatically paid. And similar to paying bills with the mobile app, you'll have the opportunity to save a copy of your payment details and review payment activity.
