I've heard numerous bad things about debt counseling services and naturally was reluctant to give Debt Guru a try. Their employees are knowledgeable and their company is registered and certified.

Good points Claunda, thanks for your input.Clearly, each consumer needs to do their homework and make sure that: i) first, they select the best debt resolution strategy; and, ii) secondly, that they select the best firm for providing that solution. Bills.com

Nice comment Bill, I like how you say that it is "referred to" as credit counseling, great choice of words. Under the guise of "non-profit" the place is run like a sales call center with quotas for consolidation enrollments and referrals to "for profit" debt negotiation services. Most incorrect of all is that consolidation payments will be reduced, generally they WILL NOT BE reduced but interest rates MAY BE thus allowing the debt to be paid off sooner. WHAT THEY DO NOT SAY IS---There is a monthly fee of $39 that they collect....so if they get reduced interest rates (varying by card holder)down to 6 or 9 percent, and I would use the highest in figuring since there is no guarantee and then add back the fee of $39 on say a balance of $8000 (that would be like adding back 6%), you are now back up to 15% (DO THE MATH, THEY COUNT ON YOU NOT DOING THE MATH, AND DON'T TRUST THEIRS BECAUSE IT IS WRONG, They tell you that you can cancel any time but they don't tell you there is a fee for canceling and once enrolled you have already lost the ability to use the cards and the ability to negotiate for yourself. LASTLY...don't know Bill why you would tell anyone to call a manager instead of customer service...Have you never been to a car dealer?...The MANAGER is the turnover guy who is supposed to SELL, SELL, SELL you, just in case the "counselor" hasn't.

That is too bad Tamara. I would suggest calling DelRay and requesting a manager. Ask them what they can do to rectify the situation and share your frustration. Most imporantly, good luck sorting it out and hang in there.

DO NOT USE Delray Credit solutions!!! I wanted to cancel their services and spoke to customer service. They assured me that i would not be charged and then was! When I called back to resolve the matter they told me I had called to confirm my account, even though I had not given them any of my creditors info and refused to resolve the matter!!
