First Advantage Debt Relief is the trade name of First Advantage Financial, LLC, a Delaware company formed on September 6, 2023 and owned by Blue Modo Media, LLC, a St. Petersburg, Florida marketing company. It doesn't lend, settle debt, or repair credit. It collects your information through an online form and connects you with third-party debt-relief providers, and it gets paid a referral fee for doing so.

Is First Advantage Debt Relief legit?

First Advantage Financial, LLC is a real, registered business. It's a Delaware company formed in September 2023, registered to do business in Florida, and owned by marketing company Blue Modo Media, LLC. In that sense, it's legitimate.

What it isn’t is a debt relief company. It doesn't settle debt or provide consolidation loans. Its sole purpose is to collect your information and give it to third-party providers, then First Advantage gets paid for the referral. The providers it hands you to are the ones that run the actual debt settlement or consolidation programs.

We can’t verify whether it provides good matches or can actually help you connect with the right debt relief company for you. First Advantage Debt Relief has no Better Business Bureau or Trustpilot profile of its own to gauge customer ratings. (The BBB and Trustpilot pages that come up for “First Advantage” belong to a different company, an employment background-check firm called First Advantage Corporation. Its ratings tell you nothing about this debt-relief business.)

The company advertises “1M+ consultations requested” and “$1B+ debt enrolled” on its homepage.

First Advantage Debt Relief: Top features

First Advantage markets a no-pressure way to look at your debt options. The most important thing to understand is what the service is: It's a lead-generation business that says it connects you with third-party debt-relief providers. It doesn't settle debt on your behalf. Here's what the company's own materials and public records confirm.

A referral service, not a debt settlement program. There's no First Advantage program to enroll in, and no in-house team negotiating with your creditors. You fill out a form. First Advantage matches your details to one or more third-party providers, and those providers contact you.

Eligible debts. First Advantage says it generally helps people with unsecured debt, things like credit cards, personal loans, and some medical bills. Secured debts such as a mortgage or car loan work differently, and so do child support and most tax debt. The company doesn't publish a minimum debt amount. The intake slider starts at $5,000, but that's a form default, not a stated minimum.

Free to get matched. You pay nothing to get matched. First Advantage earns a referral or affiliate fee from the providers it connects you with. The providers themselves will generally charge service fees.

A credit-profile step at intake. When you apply, you authorize a third party, Array US, Inc., to pull your credit profile and use it to generate targeted offers. First Advantage says it doesn’t impact your credit, so it should use a soft inquiry, but that isn’t specifically spelled out. A soft inquiry doesn't affect your credit score while a hard inquiry can lower it by a few points.

First Advantage Debt Relief pros and cons

Pros
  • You pay nothing to be matched with a provider.
  • It may point you toward more than one kind of help—debt settlement, debt consolidation, or bankruptcy guidance—depending on your situation.

Cons
  • It settles no debt and funds no loans itself. You still have to vet and sign with whatever third-party providers you're contacted by.
  • Its consumer-facing pages use warm, first-person language that reads as if it helps you directly. The fact that it's a referral service that resells your information sits in the terms and privacy policy.
  • The contact page says your information is “never sold.” Its own privacy policy says it sells and shares personal information. Those two statements contradict each other.
  • It sells and shares your personal information with third parties, which can mean calls and emails from several companies.
  • It publishes no fee information and names none of its providers, so you can't know which companies you might match with or the cost until you hand over your data.
  • It presents itself as founded in 2014. That date belongs to its parent company. This business was formed in September 2023.
  • It has no independent BBB or Trustpilot track record you can check.
  • It doesn't advertise specific savings figures, and its own FAQ says results are never guaranteed. It also doesn't spell out the real risks of the programs it sends you to.

How much does First Advantage Debt Relief cost?

Here's the honest answer: You can't find out what this will cost you until you hand over your information. First Advantage publishes no fee schedule, no fee range, and no list of the providers it works with. Because it's a referral service, it doesn't set or charge the debt settlement fee at all. You learn a number only after a provider that bought your lead calls you.

First Advantage's own service is free to you. Its intake page says the referral fee it earns can affect which options you see and in what order.

The cost comes from the provider you're matched with. As an industry reference, not First Advantage's number, debt settlement companies generally charge 20% to 25% of enrolled debt, often depending on your state's rules. Under the Federal Trade Commission's Telemarketing Sales Rule, a debt settlement company can't charge you until it settles at least one debt, you approve the settlement agreement, and you make a payment toward it.

Here's how that industry range looks on $20,000 of enrolled debt:

On $20,000 of enrolled debtAmount
Debt settlement fee at 20%About $4,000
Debt settlement fee at 25%About $5,000
Possible tax on forgiven debtAmount forgiven could be taxed at regular income tax rate, unless you can show the IRS you were insolvent when you settled.

You could save money against your original balances, or you might not. It depends on your creditors, and results aren't guaranteed. First Advantage publishes no savings figure of its own. Its FAQ says no one can honestly promise a specific result, which is true.

Important considerations when choosing debt settlement

First Advantage's main job is to steer you into a third-party debt settlement program. So the risks that matter are the risks of those programs. First Advantage doesn't manage any of this. The provider you're matched with does.

Credit score damage

Debt settlement programs generally only work if you’re behind on your debts, so you likely need to stop paying your creditors while you save toward settlements. That can drop your credit score hard, and a settled or charged-off account can stay on your credit report for about seven years. The full picture is in our breakdown of how debt settlement affects your credit.

Taxes on forgiven debt

When a creditor forgives part of what you owe, the forgiven amount is considered income by the IRS. This means it’s subject to income taxes unless you qualify for an exception. The most common one is insolvency, which means you owe more debt than you have in assets at the time of settlement. Consult a tax advisor for specifics on your situation.

Lawsuit risk

Creditors don't have to wait while you save toward a settlement or negotiate at all. They can sue to collect, whether you’re in a debt settlement program or not. Each debt settlement company sets its own policies on how it responds to creditor lawsuits for enrolled accounts, so question any company before you enroll.

No guarantee any debt gets settled

Enrolling doesn't guarantee results. You could pay into a program and have nothing resolved. Debt settlement programs also commonly run 24 to 48 months (or more), so the commitment is measured in years.

First Advantage Debt Relief customer service and satisfaction

There's no independent customer satisfaction record to report. First Advantage Debt Relief has no BBB or Trustpilot profile of its own, so there's no customer review score or count to show. Any “First Advantage” ratings you find on those sites belong to the unrelated background-check company.

No CFPB, FTC, or state attorney general action against First Advantage Financial, LLC turned up in our research. That's an absence of evidence, not a stamp of approval, especially for a company this young.

Where is First Advantage Debt Relief available?

First Advantage says only that “programs may not be available in all states.” It publishes no list of available or excluded states, and no primary source confirms one.

How do I contact First Advantage Debt Relief?

The company lists two different phone numbers. Its contact and home pages show (302) 281-2570. Its terms and privacy pages show 1-888-302-8476. Both appear to be current. You can also reach it by email at info@firstadvantage.io and you apply through an online form.

The mailing address on the website is 3301 Lancaster Pike, Ste 1A #121, Wilmington, DE 19805. That's a registered-agent address. The company's operating address on state filings is 433 Central Ave, Suite 400, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
