Is TurboDebt legit?

TurboDebt is a real, operating company that acts as a referral or lead-generation service for its debt relief partners. In other words, TurboDebt is a matching service. It qualifies you, then routes you to one of five partner firms that run the actual debt relief program.

National Debt Relief handles debt settlement, the Law Offices of Robert S. Gitmeid & Assoc. PLLC handles attorney-based debt settlement, The Credit Pros and Credit Saint handle credit repair, and Reach Financial handles consolidation loans

That's legal and disclosed. It also means the strong scores from customers mostly reflect the sales call, and a partner may handle everything after you sign.

We found no public enforcement action TurboDebt it from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), or a state attorney general.

TurboDebt: Top features

You call TurboDebt, talk through your debts on a free consultation, and get matched to a partner program that fits your situation. TurboDebt doesn’t handle your debt or credit issues itself. The features here cover both the intake TurboDebt handles and the debt settlement program it most often points people toward.

An established referral company

TurboDebt launched in 2020, which makes it young but not new. Despite its relatively short tenure, it reports more than 500,000 people served and over $15 billion in debt resolved since 2020. TurboDebt’s partners are also generally well-established companies in the financial and debt relief spaces.

Program length

A typical debt settlement program matched through TurboDebt runs 24 to 48 months. The company says some people could finish in as little as 12 months, depending on how fast they fund their debt settlements.

Eligible debts and the minimum

TurboDebt works with unsecured debt: credit card balances, medical bills, personal loans, and private student loans, among others. It generally looks for at least $10,000 in unsecured debt to move forward. Secured debts like a mortgage or auto loan don't fit a debt settlement program.

Accreditation

TurboDebt holds a BBB A+ rating. It has been BBB-accredited since October 2024. The company also says it is a member of the ACDR (Association for Consumer Debt Relief), and its team includes IAPDA-certified arbitrators. IAPDA stands for the International Association of Professional Debt Arbitrators.

A free first consultation

The process starts with a free consultation and savings estimate. The company says checking whether you're a fit doesn't affect your credit score.

How the fee works

Debt settlement through TurboDebt comes with a settlement fee of 25% of your enrolled debt once an agreement is reached, you approve, and a payment is made to your creditor. Federal law bars a telemarketed for-profit debt-relief provider from taking any fee before it settles a debt and you make a payment.

TurboDebt pros and cons

Consider these carefully before enrolling in a TurboDebt partner program.

Pros
  • Strong published reviews. BBB 4.83 out of 5 and Trustpilot 4.9 out of 5.
  • Free consultation. You get a no-obligation savings estimate, and the first check doesn't affect your credit score.
  • Wide coverage. Available in most states plus three U.S. territories.
  • Long support hours. Phone help 8 AM to 9 PM daily, in English and Spanish.
  • One intake, several program types. Debt settlement, credit repair, and consolidation loans through a single call.

Cons
  • You don't pick the partner. TurboDebt markets itself as a debt settlement company, but a partner firm you didn't choose, most often National Debt Relief, may run the program after you sign.
  • Reviews reflect the sales call, not the outcome. Most of TurboDebt's published reviews describe the first consultation. A partner handles the multi-year debt settlement work those reviews don't cover.
  • No online client portal or mobile app. Current clients rely on a phone line for service.
  • High fee ceiling. Debt settlement fees run up to 25% of enrolled debt.
  • Standard debt settlement risks apply. You could face credit damage, lawsuits, and tax consequences.

How much does TurboDebt cost?

TurboDebt only lists debt settlement fees, not fees for any of the other partner services with which you might be matched. For debt settlement, TurboDebt specifies a fee of up to 25% of your enrolled debt.

As required by law, the fee comes due only after a debt is settled and you've made a payment toward it. During the program you save money in a dedicated account that you own and can close at any time without penalty. That account typically comes with a monthly fee.

TurboDebt says people who finish the program may see savings of about 45% before fees, or 20% once fees are counted. Those figures apply to people who complete the program. They aren't a promise.

Say you enroll $20,000 in debt. Here's an illustration of how the fees could play out. It shows how the numbers could land, including the tax line debt settlement can create:

ItemIllustrative amount
Enrolled debt$20,000
Debt paid (using TurboDebt’s 45% approximation)$11,000
TurboDebt fee (25% of enrolled debt)$5,000
Total amount paid$16,000
Possible taxable income (forgiven amount)$9,000

Results vary, not all debts can be enrolled, not everyone finishes, and TurboDebt guarantees no specific reduction or timeline.

Important considerations when choosing debt settlement

Debt settlement can lower what you owe, and it carries real costs. Weigh these three before you sign anything.

Credit score damage

Debt settlement typically requires you to stop paying creditors while you build up funds, so missed payments stack up. This can cause serious credit damage, as payment history is the biggest factor in your credit scores. A settled account can stay on your credit report and affect your score for up to seven years from your first missed payment.

Taxes on forgiven debt

Forgiven debt is generally taxable income. You may be able to exclude some or all of it if you were insolvent when the debt settled, so check with a tax pro. The rules around taxes on forgiven debt turn on that insolvency test.

Lawsuit risk

A creditor could sue you while you're in the program. Debt settlement gives you no automatic stay, the court protection bankruptcy provides. So collection calls, letters, and even debt settlement lawsuits can continue while you save toward offers. The CFPB warns that working with a debt settlement company could prompt a creditor to file suit. Comparing it against other debt relief programs can help you judge whether that risk is worth the savings.

TurboDebt customer service and satisfaction

TurboDebt's published ratings are strong. People praise individual representatives for being patient, clear, and calm during a stressful call.

One fair note for readers: Most reviews describe that first consultation and sign-up, not a multi-year program. That gap matters, because a partner firm often runs the debt settlement program after you enroll.

TurboDebt recent milestones

For 2025, TurboDebt reports about 77,000 people enrolled and roughly $1.45 billion in total enrolled debt, at an average near $18,800 each. It puts average savings at 45% before fees.

Over its lifetime, it reports more than 500,000 people served and over $15 billion in debt resolved since 2020. Given the partner-run structure, those totals may reflect the full referral network rather than TurboDebt's own book.
