Best for existing Regions Bank deposit customers
Regions Bank is the banking arm of Regions Financial Corporation, founded in 1971 and headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The bank held about $158.8 billion in assets and ran 1,247 branches across 15 states as of December 31, 2025. Alongside checking accounts and mortgages, Regions offers unsecured personal loans, deposit-secured loans, and secured installment loans for vehicles and RVs.

| Min. Credit Score | Not published, and no longer a scored factor under Bills.com's current methodology |
- No origination fee, no application fee, and no prepayment penalty on unsecured loans. Origination fees across lenders usually run from 0% to 12% of the loan amount. Regions charges none, so the amount approved is the amount you receive.
- Rates, a sample payment, and the full fee schedule sit on the public site. You can compare costs before handing over any personal information.
- Regions often decides within one business day, so funding could be fast.
- A published hardship program covers personal loans. Regions says it can help before you fall behind.
- You may apply with a co-applicant, which could help if your credit file is thin.
- APRs reach up to 29.99%. Comparable no-fee bank lenders cap lower: Wells Fargo at 26.74%, Discover at 24.99%, TD Bank at 23.99%.
- You must already bank with Regions. Eligibility requires a Regions checking, savings, money market, or CD account open at least six months, and Regions operates in only 15 states.
- No prequalification process that avoids credit score damage. All lending applications require a full credit inquiry, which could damage your credit.
- Regions doesn’t disclose its minimum credit score.
You've got a Regions checking account, a repair bill you didn't plan for, and a branch two minutes from your office. A Regions unsecured personal loan puts $2,000 to $50,000 in your account at a fixed rate, from 8.74% to 29.99% APR as of August 2026. No origination fee comes off the top.
Regions only lends this money to current banking customers, and the account has to be at least six months old. Most personal loans are unsecured, but secured options exist, and Regions offers both.
Regions doesn't publish a minimum credit score. See our guide to unsecured personal loans for how to compare lenders.
Regions Bank personal loan top features
Loan amounts
For unsecured loans, you can borrow $2,000 to $50,000 as an existing customer. For secured loans, you could potentially borrow up to $300,000.
Credit requirements
Regions weighs four things: your deposit relationship, your credit score and credit history, your debt-to-income ratio, and your income. The bank doesn't publish a minimum score.
Rates and discounts
APRs run 8.74% to 29.99% as of August 5, 2026. Set up automatic payments from a Regions checking account and you take 0.25% off. A relationship discount adds 0.25% (up to 0.50%) on loans of $5,000 or more. The two stack. The relationship discount isn't available if you add automatic payments after the loan opens.
Fees
No origination fee. No application fee. Where many online lenders take up to 12% off the top before you see a dollar, Regions takes nothing. The late fee is 5% of the unpaid payment or $100, whichever is less. Regions applies it 10 days after your due date. A returned item costs $15.
Florida residents also pay a state documentary stamp tax.
Prepayment penalty
No penalty. Pay more than your scheduled amount and you could cut the total interest.
Terms
You get 36 to 60 months, and the options depend on how much you borrow. Personal loan terms typically run two to seven years, though some lenders offer shorter or longer, so Regions sits at the narrow end of the normal range.
Funding speed
Regions can often decide within one business day, and your money is available at closing. Funding times vary by lender, often within a week of approval.
Where it lends
Regions operates in 15 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
Prequalification
Unlike lenders that let you check a rate with a soft pull first, Regions goes straight to a full credit inquiry. There's no soft-pull rate check on the site. Regions confirmed to Bills.com that every lending application goes through underwriting.
Where Regions Bank can improve
Regions Bank could improve its maximum APR. At 29.99%, the top of its range sits three to six points higher than the no-fee bank lenders it competes with directly.
Regions Bank's term lengths are less flexible than what several competitors offer. Regions runs 36 to 60 months and nothing outside it. A 24-month option would save you interest. However, there’s no prepayment penalty, so you could pay off a 36-month loan in 24 months. An 84-month option would cut your monthly payment, and Wells Fargo and Discover both go that long. Regions doesn’t.
Regions Bank also limits how you can apply. The unsecured loan has no online application, so a branch visit or a phone call is the only way in.
Regions doesn't publish a minimum credit score, and it doesn’t offer risk-free prequalification. It doesn’t disclose on its site if joint loans or co-signers are allowed.
Regions also carries regulatory history. In 2022, the CFPB ordered Regions to pay $191 million over overdraft fees, including a $50 million civil penalty and consumer redress. The CFPB terminated that order in July 2025 after Regions met its terms.
Regions Bank personal loan requirements
You may be eligible if you have a Regions checking, savings, money market, or CD account that's been open at least six months.
Regions then looks at four factors: your deposit relationship, credit score and credit history, debt-to-income ratio, and income.
Regions Bank doesn't publish a minimum credit score. Regions reserves its lowest advertised APRs for borrowers with strong credit who authorize automatic payments and meet other criteria. You can check your credit score by opening a free account with a credit bureau or asking your bank if they offer free credit checks.
Regions doesn’t disclose if it allows joint borrowers or co-signers. Our guide to applying with a co-signer covers what each role means for both people.
How to apply for a Regions Bank personal loan
You have two ways in: visit a branch, or call 1-888-462-7627 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The unsecured loan has no online application.
Have this ready before you call:
- Contact information, Social Security number, and date of birth
- Home address and employer details
- The amount you want and what you're using it for
- Documentation of your income
Many lenders let you pre-qualify with a soft inquiry first. A soft inquiry doesn't affect your credit score. Regions doesn't offer that. Regions confirmed to Bills.com that you must apply for loans directly, triggering a hard credit inquiry, which could damage your score.
Our guide to soft credit checks explains how to compare offers without stacking up inquiries.
Loan approval and funding from Regions Bank
Regions can often reach a credit decision within one business day. Approval could take longer if the bank needs to verify your income or confirm insurance.
Your money arrives as one lump sum at closing. Approval in a branch could mean same-day funding.
You can pay through Regions online banking or the mobile app, at a branch, by phone, by mail, or by automatic draft. Your payment is due the same day each month, and Regions publishes no option to change that date.
If money gets tight, Regions runs a Customer Assistance Program that covers personal loans, at 1-800-221-7471. You can apply for short-term or long-term hardship help, and Regions states that a banker can work with you even if you're not past due yet.
Regions Bank customer service and customer satisfaction
Regions Bank is a real, federally insured bank. Regions is an Alabama state-chartered bank and a Federal Reserve member. Deposits are FDIC-insured. The Better Business Bureau has accredited the bank since 1956. So yes, Regions Bank is legitimate.
Customer ratings are far weaker than the bank's accreditation suggests. A very low score is normal for most brick-and-mortar banks, though it could be better.
| Source | Rating | Reviews |
|---|---|---|
| BBB rating | A+ | Accredited since 1956 |
| BBB customer reviews | 1.15 out of 5 | 181 |
| Trustpilot | 1.4 out of 5 | 496 |
Ratings as of August 5, 2026
The complaints cluster around deposit accounts, holds, and overdraft disputes rather than personal loans, and these ratings cover the whole bank.
Regions received 1,236 CFPB complaints in the past year. The bank answered nearly all of them on time, though timely response measures only a reply within 15 days, a bar most large banks clear. The biggest complaints were about account management, deposits and withdrawals specifically.
Reach Regions at 1-800-734-4667 for general questions, 1-888-462-7627 for loans, and 1-800-221-7471 for hardship help. Regions runs mobile apps for iOS and Android and a web portal with live chat.
When a Regions Bank personal loan might be the best choice
You already bank with Regions. The relationship discount and the automatic payment discount stack, and you've already cleared the six-month requirement without trying.
You want the full amount you borrow. Where a lender charges an origination fee, it comes out of your disbursement, so a $10,000 loan might land as $9,200. Regions charges none.
You'd rather sit across from someone. A banker can go through the terms with you in person, which is worth something on a five-year commitment.
You're consolidating debt and want your payoff amount to match your loan amount exactly. Our debt consolidation loan guide covers how to size one.
Choose a different lender if you don't bank with Regions, if you live outside its 15 states, or if you want to compare rates without a credit inquiry.
Compare Regions Bank to other personal loan lenders
Regions competes with bank lenders that charge no origination fee. Here's how it stacks up.
| Lender | APR range | Amounts | Terms | Origination fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regions Bank | 8.74% to 29.99% | $2,000 to $50,000 | 36 to 60 months | None |
| Wells Fargo | 6.74% to 26.74% | $3,000 to $100,000 | 12 to 84 months | None |
| TD Bank | 7.99% to 23.99% | $2,000 to $50,000 | 36 to 60 months | None |
| Discover | 6.99% to 24.99% | $2,500 to $40,000 | 36 to 84 months | None |
