Best for: People who want free help comparing options
CuraDebt is based in Hollywood, Florida, and operates as CuraDebt Systems, LLC. Founded in 1996, it markets itself on roughly 25 years of experience in debt and tax relief. (BBB's public record separately lists the LLC's own incorporation/registration date as 2008, a distinct fact from when the business started operating.) Since March 2026, it's a free referral service. It matches consumers with independent providers for consumer debt, IRS/state tax debt, and business or MCA debt. Founder Eric Pemper remains the company's managing member.

CuraDebt: Top features
CuraDebt has over 25 years in debt and tax relief. In 2026, the company changed from a debt settlement provider to a debt settlement matching service. Learn how debt settlement works before you submit an inquiry.
- Established company. Founded in 1996, CuraDebt is based in Hollywood, Florida.
- Program length. CuraDebt matches you to debt settlement providers, so the program length depends on your situation and who you work with.
- Eligible debts. Matched providers could handle:
- Credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills
- Some private student loans
- Business/MCA debt
- IRS or state tax debt
- Ratings and accreditation. A+ with the BBB. 4.89/5 from BBB customers. 5-star Trustpilot score. Member of the Association for Consumer Debt Relief (ACDR), formerly AADR. Connects consumers with IAPDA-affiliated professionals.
- Free service. Your inquiry is free and uses only a soft credit check.
- No upfront fees. The matching service costs nothing. And by law, no provider can charge a fee until you agree to a settlement and make a payment.
How it's different from a direct provider: National Debt Relief and Freedom Debt Relief negotiate your settlement themselves. CuraDebt refers you to providers in your state. They do the actual negotiating.
Is CuraDebt legit?
CuraDebt is a legitimate, long-operating company, though its business has changed. It's an ACDR member. It connects consumers with IAPDA-affiliated professionals.
We checked the CFPB's enforcement database and FTC case trackers. No enforcement action, lawsuit, or state attorney general action names CuraDebt or CuraDebt Systems, LLC as of this review (July 2026).
Worth knowing: most published reviews describe CuraDebt's former debt settlement service, not its current matching service. The switch happened in March 2026, so those reviews may be less meaningful. It’s worth learning how to tell if a debt settlement company is legit.

- The service quality varies by matched provider: CuraDebt vets its network, but it's not the company doing your actual settlement work.
- Most published CuraDebt reviews describe its old settlement service, not its current matching service.
How much does CuraDebt cost?
CuraDebt doesn't charge consumers anything to use its matching service. It may get paid by the providers it refers you to. Your matched provider sets its own fees, so there's no single CuraDebt fee anymore.
Industry-wide, debt settlement fees commonly run 20% to 25% of enrolled debt. Providers charge that fee only after a settlement is reached and a payment made.
Example, $20,000 enrolled debt settled for $10,000:
- Fee (20% to 25%): $4,000 to $5,000
- Forgiven amount ($10,000): generally taxable income, unless you were insolvent when it was forgiven.
On savings: CuraDebt's own site says settlements often land somewhere around 40% to 60% of the balance. Outcomes vary by creditor and aren't guaranteed, so your savings might be different.
Important considerations when choosing debt settlement
Under federal law, a debt settlement provider can't charge you a fee until you agree to a settlement and make a payment. You're never obligated to work with a provider. Debt settlement also carries real trade-offs, no matter which company you choose. See is debt relief a good idea for your situation to compare it with other options.
Credit score damage
Debt settlement usually means missing payments while funds build up. That can seriously hurt your credit score. The National Consumer Law Center cites a median drop of about 161 points within six months of starting a plan. And a settled account can stay on your credit report for about seven years from the first missed payment.
Taxes on forgiven debt
Forgiven debt is taxable income if you’re not insolvent. That means your debts are more than the value of everything you own. If everything you own has a current value of $100,000, and your debts total $120,000, you could get up to $20,000 in debt forgiven, tax-free. ($120,000 debt minus $100,000 assets equals $20,000.) This IRS worksheet shows you how to check.
Lawsuit risk
Debt settlement doesn't stop lawsuits like bankruptcy does. Creditors may still call, send letters, or sue while you're enrolled. The CFPB warns that working with a debt settlement company may lead to a collection lawsuit. See debt settlement pros and cons to compare trade-offs, or this debt management plan guide if a DMP fits better.
CuraDebt customer service and satisfaction
Positive reviews often mention staff who explain the process clearly and patiently. Some recent negative reviews describe confusion about who was handling an account after being moved to a partner firm. CuraDebt's response says affected clients were notified by email in advance.
Worth knowing: most reviews predate the March 2026 shift, so they mostly reflect the old debt settlement business, not today's matching service.
Where is CuraDebt available?
CuraDebt doesn't publish a list of states where it offers its matching service. To find out if a provider is available where you live, you'd need to complete CuraDebt's inquiry form.
