Yes, Capital One offers personal loans. It offers them through Discover, now part of Capital One. Capital One's help center sends applicants to Discover's site to apply. There's no separate Capital One-branded or Capital One 360 personal loan.

A Capital One personal loan is the Discover personal loan, which Discover has offered since 2007. It's unsecured, with amounts from $2,500 to $40,000 and terms of 36 to 84 months. Per the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), common uses include making a large purchase, covering an unexpected expense, and consolidating existing debt.

Discover doesn't publish a minimum credit score. So the real question is fit: what this loan does well, and where another lender may suit you better.

Capital One personal loan top features

Loan amounts: You can borrow $2,500 to $40,000.

Credit needed: There's no published minimum score. The strongest credit gets the low end of the rate range.

Rates: Fixed APRs run up to 24.99%, with a low end of 6.99%, as of Oct. 25, 2026. There's no autopay or relationship discount. Discover says you may get a lower APR if you use the loan to consolidate debt. It doesn't say how much lower.

Fees: There are none of any kind. That means no origination fee, no late fee and no prepayment penalty.

Prepayment: You can pay early at any time. Extra payments go toward your principal.

Terms: Choose 36, 48, 60, 72 or 84 months for any loan amount.

Funding speed: Funds can go out as soon as the next business day after you accept.

States: The loan is available in all 50 states, though Discover notes that state restrictions may apply.

Pricing tier: This is a prime, no-fee loan, with APRs that top out in the mid-20s.

Direct payment to creditors: If you're consolidating debt, Discover can pay many of your creditors directly. You don't have to move the money yourself.

Capital One personal loan rates

Capital One's personal loan rates run up to 24.99% APR, with a low end of 6.99%, as of Oct. 25, 2026. The rate is fixed, with regular monthly payments. Your exact rate depends on your credit history, application information and the term you choose.

Here's what that looks like in dollars. A $15,000 loan at an 11.99% interest rate over 72 months costs about $293 a month.

Where Capital One can improve

The biggest weakness is customer feedback. Capital One's ratings on the Better Business Bureau site and Trustpilot are both close to 1 out of 5. Those ratings cover all of Capital One's products, not just personal loans.

There's no co-signer or joint loan option. That may make approval harder if your credit or income is thin.

There are no rate discounts for autopay or for being a Capital One customer. Loan amounts top out at $40,000, which may be too low for a large project. And there's no live chat for personal loans, so you'll need to call or use the app.

Capital One personal loan requirements

To apply, you need a valid US Social Security number and to be at least 18 years old. You also need individual or household income of at least $25,000, a physical address and an active email address. The application asks for a US street address before you can move forward.

These loans are for individual borrowers only, so co-signers and co-borrowers aren't allowed. The loans are also unsecured, so there's no option to use collateral.

The money also has limits on use. You can't use it to directly pay a Capital One account, including Discover and Capital One credit cards. The one exception is select Discover personal loans. You also can't use it to pay off a secured loan or for post-secondary education costs.

Credit score, income and age requirements

Without a published minimum score, approval depends on your income, debt-to-income ratio, credit history and application information. Your debt-to-income ratio (DTI) is all your monthly debt payments including housing divided by your gross monthly income.

Lenders weigh your credit score for a personal loan alongside those other factors. The $25,000 income floor can count household income, not just your own.

How to apply for a Capital One personal loan

You apply online through Discover's check-your-rate form. Before you start, Discover's online calculator can estimate your monthly payment.

Have this ready:

  • Income and employment information
  • Bank account and routing numbers
  • Balances and account numbers for any creditors you plan to pay off

A loan specialist may call to verify your information.

How applying affects your credit

A soft inquiry (soft pull) does not affect your credit score. Checking your rate with Discover uses a soft inquiry, so you can verify your rate first. This rate check works like prequalification. It's not an approval.

If you move forward with an application, you'll consent to a hard credit inquiry. It appears on your credit report. A hard inquiry, made when you formally apply for credit, can lower your score by a few points temporarily. That short-term dip is one reason borrowers ask whether personal loans hurt your credit.

Capital One personal loan approval and funding

Most applicants get a decision the same day if the application is complete.

After you accept, funds can go out as soon as the next business day. That timing depends on an error-free application, funding on a weekday night and electronic deposit to checking or savings. Your bank or creditor may take more days to post the money.

You can take the money as a deposit or have Discover pay creditors directly. The loan agreement lists no origination, late or prepayment fee.

You can pay through the Discover mobile app, automatic payments or the online account center. Phone, mail, wire transfer and your bank's bill pay also work. If you hit a rough patch, Discover offers repayment assistance programs.

Refinancing a Capital One personal loan

If you already have a Discover personal loan, you can apply for a new one. Discover checks your rate with a soft inquiry. A same or lower rate combines your current loan and the extra money into one loan. A higher rate opens a second loan for the added amount.

The loan agreement allows a new loan to pay off select Discover personal loans. You can also refinance with another lender, since there's no prepayment penalty. Refinancing could lower your rate or payment, but it may not. If you refinance a personal loan, compare the new rate, term and total cost first.

Capital One personal loan customer service and reviews

You can reach a loan specialist at 1-866-248-1255. Hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET on weekends. Automated payments are available 24/7 at 1-877-256-2632.

There's no live chat or email for personal loans. Mail goes to PO Box 30954, Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0954. The Discover Mobile app lets you make payments, view statements and send secure messages.

Is Capital One legit? Its track record

Discover has offered personal loans since 2007. Capital One has been a public company since November 1994. Capital One and Discover have faced several government actions in the last five years.

The FDIC issued a consent order in September 2023 over Discover Bank's compliance management.

In April 2025, the FDIC ordered at least $1.225 billion in restitution to merchants. It also set a $150 million civil money penalty for misclassifying consumer credit cards as commercial cards. The Federal Reserve issued a cease-and-desist order with a civil money penalty that same month.

In May 2025, the New York attorney general sued Capital One over its 360 Savings rates. The office plans to drop its suit if a $425 million class settlement takes effect. None of these actions was specific to personal loans.

What customers say

Capital One holds an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau. But its customer reviews average 1.14 out of 5 stars across 2,089 reviews. On Trustpilot, it scores 1.2 out of 5 from 4,348 reviews. Both ratings cover all Capital One products, not just personal loans.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau logged 30 installment-loan complaints in the 12 months through October 2026.

The most common issue was getting the loan. Next came unexpected fees or interest, the company's handling of disputes, and credit report errors. The CFPB doesn't separate brands, so not every complaint under Capital One is tied to a Discover personal loan.

When a Capital One personal loan might be the best choice

A Capital One personal loan may fit if you have good credit and want to avoid fees entirely. With no origination fee, you receive the full amount you borrow.

It can also work well for paying off credit cards held at other banks. Discover can send the money straight to those creditors. It can't pay Capital One or Discover cards directly. Before you consolidate, compare it with other options for a debt consolidation loan.

Choose it if you need $40,000 or less and want a choice of five terms. Go elsewhere if you need a co-signer, want a rate discount or need a larger loan.

Rates, terms, and eligibility can change. Loans are subject to credit approval. Confirm current terms with Discover before you apply.
